Etymology

Alucard is based on Bahamut, an enormous whale in ancient Arabian mythology. It lies deep below, underpinning the support structure that holds up the earth. In this conception of the world, the earth is shouldered by an angel, who stands on a slab of gemstone, which is supported by the cosmic bull sometimes called Kuyutha. The whale Bahamut carries this bull on its back, and is suspended in water for its own stability.

'Alucard' is 'Dracula' spelled backwards. The name originates from the the 1943 Universal Horror movie Son of Dracula.

Alucard's alternative name, 'Demir', means iron in Turkish.
